The Minister of Housing & Planning and the Minister of Business & Industry have opened formal negotiations with the sector bodies for a Built Environment Sector Deal to boost housing delivery. Almost 7% of the national workforce is employed within the Built Environment sector and over the next 3 years it is expected that more than 230,000 new jobs will be created in the construction industry alone.
The core objectives are:

  • Delivering more homes and improving housing quality.
For example, through initiatives that support offsite construction.
  • Improving the sector’s productivity through improved access to data and the promotion of PropTech.
  • Enabling the sector to diversify its workforce through dedicated skills and employment strategies, as well as diversifying its firm base and increasing competitiveness.
  • Promoting clean growth and supporting the sector’s transition to low-carbon.
